Electricians

To obtain your JIB Gold Card which certifies you as a fully qualified electrician, you’ll need three key certifications:

· AM2 (Achievement Measurement 2) This is the ultimate practical test for electricians. It assesses your ability to handle real-world tasks, from wiring installations to fault finding. Passing it proves you can work safely and effectively under pressure.

· 18th Edition Wiring Regulations The 18th Edition is the latest set of wiring standards in the UK. It ensures you’re up-to-date with safety regulations and best practices.

· NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services This qualification is the gold standard for becoming a fully qualified electrician. It combines hands-on training with technical knowledge, ensuring you’re ready for anything.

Electrical Improvers

Not quite a qualified electrician yet? An Electrical Improver should have a minimum of an ECS Card (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme), along with either a Level 2 and/or Level 3 NVQ certificate. An electrical improver should have the ability to be able to carry out tasks on their own, have multiple electrical certificates and be well on their way to become fully certified.

Electrical Labourers

This is where the ECS Card (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme) comes in. This card shows employers that you have the foundational skills and safety knowledge to assist electricians on-site.

The ECS Card is also a stepping stone for those looking to eventually earn their NVQ Level 3 and AM2 certification.

As an Electrical Labourer, you may be able to get on site as a ‘Mate’ using a Green CSCS Card. This card confirms you’ve passed a health and safety test and are ready to assist with basic electrical tasks under supervision.
